Roads, Construction and Detours

Hopewell Borough, its contractors and partners at Mercer County and the State DOT are regularly working to improve our roads and infrastructure.  Information on Borough projects, including upcoming closures or detours, can be found here and will be regularly updated. 

Princeton Ave. / Carter Road County Bridge Replacement Project – August 15

  • Starting on or around August 15, 2024 Mercer County will be replacing a bridge on Princeton Avenue/Carter Road south of Hopewell Borough. Through the use of a bypass lane, the project no longer anticipates any full closures or detours. Further information on the timing and any detours (currently none are anticipated) will also be shared on the Borough website when it is available and information on the proposed detour can be found here. (note that the original date for the project to start was July 29th, and was postponed to August 15) 

Elizabethtown Gas Pipe Project 

  • Starting on or around September 16, 2024, Elizabethtown Gas will be working in Hopewell long Ege Avenue, North Lanning Avenue, South Lanning Avenue, Taylor Terrance, and Windsor Way to replace gas lines.  More information can be found here.   

Recently Completed Projects 

  • Mercer County has completed the milling and paving of East Broad Street.  In the coming weeks, final painting and stripping will be completed, this work should not require any significant detours. 
  • The week of August 5, 2024 a contractor, working on behalf of the Borough, repaired a water main leak near 11 East Broad Street.  

  • All 13 Sanitary Sewer Casting shave been replaced East Broad Street in anticipating of the County paving the road this season. This work was arranged to not involve full road closures and was completed ahead of schedule. 
  • The repair of 4 water leaks under East Broad Street started on May 28, 2024 and is has been completed.
  • On Newell Place a new water main, new water service lines, and a new fire hydrant have been installed, and the road was then completely reconstructed. That project also included the installation of granite block curbing and the rebuilding of the existing stormwater basin and sanitary sewer utility hole.
  • Work on the complete reconstruction of the Walnut Avenue roadway has been completed. In addition to the reconstruction, a limited amount of granite block curbing and stormwater drainage was also installed.
  • Mercer Street was milled & paved and received a new fire hydrant in June, 

Other Borough Construction Projects 

 

  • The Hopewell RR Station is about to experience a renovation of the exterior of the building. Roofing, windows, trim, as well as the repair/repointing of the masonry are to be addressed during this project which is partially funded by The New Jersey Historic Trust.  We anticipate the work to begin the last week of May and will be completed late September 2024.
