Borough Code requires that owners, occupants, or tenants of any property fronting on any street in the borough remove all snow and ice from the abutting sidewalks within 12 hours of daylight after the snow has fallen.

Unfortunately, a few of our fellow residents are not abiding by this code and as such have created a safety concern for pedestrians during recent snow storms. Please be advised, violation of this requirement carries with it a fine of $100 to $1,250 for each and every offense or imprisonment for not more than 90 days, or both, or to a period of community service not exceeding 90 days at the discretion of the municipal court judge. (N.J.S.A. 40:49-5)
This announcement is being sent as a reminder to our residents of the need to maintain sidewalks and to make all aware of the penalties for violating this provision/law outlined in the Hopewell Borough Code.
