This notice is to inform you that the Borough Council is proposing implementing a quarterly water user charge of $20, effective April 1, 2023. Rates for water usage will remain unchanged.
The flat rate water user charge will be scheduled for a public hearing at the May 4, 2023 Borough Council meeting. Water utility users will see the increase on the third quarter bill which will be mailed in July.
This rate increase is directly related to the Borough’s need to balance the water utility budget and is a necessary response to significant increases in operating costs. Some of these include increases in salaries and health benefits, increases in water rates charged by New Jersey American Water, a sharp increase in water testing and treatments costs, and a substantial increase in our capital improvement costs for the replacement of lead service lines. These increases present many challenges in the maintenance of the Borough’s water infrastructure and our ability to maintain compliance with Federal and State regulations.
