Updated 6:30PM Sunday March 9, 2025: Due to the winds, low relative humidity, and higher temperatures, the NJ Forest Fire Service determined the prescribed burn of the fields at Hillside (originally scheduled for Monday 3/10/25) will be postponed until conditions are satisfied again. The NJ Forest Fire Service will reassess after this upcoming weekend’s rains for a new date.

The D&R Greenway Land Trust, stewards of the preserved land just north of Hopewell Borough now known as the Betty Wold Johnson Hillside Farm Preserve, is working with the New Jersey Forest Fire Service to conduct a prescribed burn on a large field located on Hopewell-Wertsville Road on Monday March 10, 2025. More information, including a map of the area, can be found at the link below:

According to the advisory, nearby landowners have been directly notified, and are advised to keep their windows closed during the planned burn. After the burn, smoldering is normal to see, but flams increasing in size are not. Anyone who seems fames after the burn should first call NJ Forest Fire Service at 609.292.2977.
