Update Wednesday 8/5/26: The Elizabethtown Gas projects are now anticipated to start on Friday August 7th, rather than Thursday as originally planned. The advisory below has been updated.
For the week of August 3rd two major road construction projects will be conducted in the Borough: 1) continued water main work on West Broad Street by New Jersey American (NJAW) Monday through Friday and 2) repaving work by Elizabethtown Gas to restore the roads where they upgraded gas mains last summer starting on Friday.
West Broad Street NJAW Project
As part of the New Jersey American Water (NJAW) project to install a new water main, West Broad Street this week will be detoured at Louellen (518) and Van Dyke Road – with local business and resident traffic only permitted during construction. Local businesses in the area remain open and can be accessed during the detour. If you are looking to access homes or businesses in the detour area, please advise the traffic control officers who will simply allow or make arrangements for your access.
A project map showing the detours can be found below. This week’s construction will include the actual installation of the new water main, and while none are planned, could involve limited water service interruptions or changes in pressure which may result discoloration or cloudy water which can be remedied by running the cold water for a few moments until it clears up. No overnight work like what was conducted on Thursday the 30th is planned for this week, and any future off hours work will be communicated more directly. If you live near the project area and did not receive texts or a robocall about the work – please sign up for alerts from NJAW:
Residents are strongly encouraged to sign up or log in to their MyWater account, update their contact information, and choose how they wish to receive project notifications. Individuals who are not New Jersey American Water account holders can sign up for alerts at AWCodeRed.com or by texting WATER to 24639. Keeping contact information current will help ensure customers receive important updates about construction projects, emergency notifications and future planned work.

Elizabethtown Gas Repaving Project
As part of completing the gas main replacement work started by Elizabethtown Gas last summer, the utility will be repaving several roads in Hopewell Borough starting on Friday August 7th, including North Greenwood, Front Street, Model Avenue, Voorhees Avenue, Center Street and Cook Place. The current (weather permitting) day by day schedule is outlined below. The project work is planned between 7AM and 4PM. There are no detours planned for N. Greenwood – work would be phased one side at a time with flaggers alternating traffic, but there may be limited full closures of some of the side streets during work. Please expect delays while the construction is occurring on each street.
August 7 – Milling of all project streets
August 10 – Paving restoration activities at N. Greenwood, Front Street, Model Avenue, Voorhees Avenue, Center Street, Cook Place
August 11 – Paving restoration activities at S. Greenwood, Cook Place, Blackwell Avenue, S. Elm Street, E. Prospect Street, Burton Ave.
August 12-13 – Paving close-out and re-striping of all project streets.
Impacted residents and businesses should also receive flyers directly from the contractor with additional information.
