Advisory Updated Monday August 24th to reflect revised date for planned night work (changed from Tuesday to Thursday night).
For the week of August 24th the New Jersey American Water (NJAW) project on West Broad Street will continue Monday through Friday (with a pause on Friday when no work is planned) weather permitting. Importantly on the evening of Thursday August 27th, night work is planned from 8PM to 5AM Friday morning near the corner of West Broad and Louellen streets. NJAW will also continue their meter replacement program in the streets around Hopewell Elementary School, with no full road closures planned at this time.
West Broad Street NJAW Project and Night Work on August 27th
As part of the New Jersey American Water (NJAW) project to install a new water main, West Broad Street this week will be detoured at Louellen (518) and Van Dyke Road – with local business and resident traffic only permitted during construction. Local businesses in the area remain open and can be accessed during the detour. If you are looking to access homes or businesses in the detour area, please advise the traffic control officers who will simply allow or make arrangements for your access.

This week’s construction will contline with the actual installation of the new water main, and while none are planned, could involve limited water service interruptions or changes in pressure which may result discoloration or cloudy water which can be remedied by running the cold water for a few moments until it clears up. This is particularly likely on Tuesday August 25th when the new line is being tested.
This week there will be planned overnight work on Thursday August 27th from approximately 8PM until 5AM the following morning. Information on this part of the project will also be communicated directly to impacted residents, but if you live near the project area and did not receive texts or a robocall about the work – please sign up for alerts from NJAW, using the information below.
NJAW Water Meter Replacement Project
As part of the New Jersey American Water (NJAW) project to install new water meters, contractors will be working this week in the area around Hopewell Elementary School including Princeton Avenue, East Prospect Street, and 1st and 2nd Streets (shown below). No road closures are anticipated and while none are planned, the work could involve limited water service interruptions or changes in pressure which may result discoloration or cloudy water which can be remedied by running the cold water for a few moments until it clears up. Please note that NJAW has confirmed that repairs to sidewalks, curbing and driveway aprons are currently only temporary – full restoration will occur towards the end of the project.
