Hopewell Borough has started working with Mercer County DOT on plans for a bridge replacement just outside of town on Princeton Avenue/Carter Road (Route 569) where it crosses the Bedens Brook about .7 miles into Hopewell Township. The project has a tentative start date of August 1, and unlike recent projects, would only require fully closing the road for 2 three day periods of the 270 day estimated length of the project. The County is able to achieve this plan with a temporary bridge being installed to limit the impact, and using signalized alternating traffic during construction to avoid full closure as much as possible. Because this is one of the main arteries into town, the Borough will be working with area businesses and the County to minimize the impact.
The Borough invites any comments from area businesses and residents that we can share with the County to improve their planning and everyone’s assistance to spread the word of any necessary detour announcements. Please consider directly contacting our administrator Maggie Schmitt (609-466-2636 or email), or attending an upcoming Borough Council or Economic Development Committee meeting. Additional information will be posted to the Borough website and emailed to those on our email lists as it becomes available. On behalf of our residents and businesses, we want to thank Mercer County for working with the Borough on a plan that allows us to share with so much notice, and as little impact as is possible for these types of projects.
