Mayor Kennedy and Councilman Buda will be holding an informal public/open work session on Tuesday September 8, 2026 at 7PM at Borough Hall to discuss and work on a possible future ordinance addressing Accessory Dwelling Units (known as ADUs or accessory apartments) in the Borough. The meeting will be in person only in the downstairs Courtroom/Council Chambers. Councilman Buda has been collecting information and background examples from other municipalities that Borough Council could consider in developing regulations allowing ADUs in some circumstances. Currently, accessory units are only permitted if the unit is deed restricted for affordable housing and in the decades since the measure was introduced, there have been none under that program, while several unrestricted units have been approved through the lengthy and expensive variance process. Borough Council could in the future consider expanding the program to allow housing for family members or small apartments, and if so, will need input on what conditions, restrictions or types of properties would be appropriate.
The public is welcome to attend, participate and provide input on the future of ADUs in the Borough through this informal meeting. No action will be taken at this meeting, but there will be discussion about potential future ordinances to be developed and introduced at a later date during a Borough Council meeting.
