The department of Public Works provides maintenance services to all Borough roads, storm sewers, and sanitary sewer distribution lines. Traffic and street sign posting, sight distance and road shoulder clearing, bulky waste, brush and leaf collection, street sweeping, road striping, pot hole patching, and snow and ice removal are among the services provided by the department. Public Works is also responsible for the maintenance of the buildings owned by the Borough and the lands surrounding them. Public works employees also maintain Borough parks and playing fields and assist with recreation activities.

The Public Works Building includes a vehicle maintenance facility where Borough mechanics maintain the fleet and many pieces of Public Works equipment. The department also has sign making facility.

RECYCLING:

Green and Yellow Pails – Recycling is every other Tuesday. If your recycling was not picked up on its scheduled day, please call Public Works at 609-466-0168 for direction.

Car Batteries – Your Public Works Department will pick up your old car or lawn equipment batteries. This service is provided by appointment only.

Tires – Tire drop-off dates will be posted on this site and advertised in the Hopewell Valley News. This service is scheduled by Mercer County Improvement Authority.

Household Chemical Waste – The Household Chemical Waste Day is an event hosted by the Mercer County Improvement Authority twice a year. It is held at the John T. Dempster Fire School on Bakers Basin Road, Lawrence Township from 8 am – 2 pm. Please call Public Works at 609-466-0168 for more information. Scheduled dates will be posted on this site.

 ATTENTION RESIDENTS – BULK TRASH & ELECTRONICS PICKUP REMINDER

 Except for the traditional one-day-only townwide bulk pickup day announced each year (typically in June – and not guaranteed – scheduled each spring based on funding availability), the Borough DOES NOT collect bulk trash items as part of the municipal waste collection contract.  Bulk items such as furniture, mattresses, construction material, tires, refrigerators, etc. MUST be disposed of privately.  Please refer to the local yellow pages or other resource for a listing of private haulers.  The Department of Public Works will not pick up these items.  Property owners are subject to violation and penalties for uncollected bulk items left at curbside.    

Annual Bulk Pickup

The following are examples of items that WILL be picked up for the bulk pickup: washers, dryers, small household appliances, furniture, furnishings, mattresses, box springs, rugs and carpets.  The following will NOT be picked up: refrigerators, air conditioners, any appliance containing hazardous materials, televisions, vehicles, large vehicle parts (including tires), automobile batteries, construction debris (including lumber, bricks, concrete, cement blocks, etc.), or any hazardous materials such as aerosol cans, used motor oil, propane gas tanks, pesticides and herbicides, paint thinner, paint or varnishes, antifreeze, fluorescent and CFL bulbs.  The annual bulk pickup will occur immediately following the townwide yard sale.
