PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
The department of Public Works provides maintenance services to all Borough roads, storm sewers, and sanitary sewer distribution lines. Traffic and street sign posting, sight distance and road shoulder clearing, bulky waste, brush and leaf collection, street sweeping, road striping, pot hole patching, and snow and ice removal are among the services provided by the department. Public Works is also responsible for the maintenance of the buildings owned by the Borough and the lands surrounding them. ATTENTION RESIDENTS – BULK TRASH & ELECTRONICS PICKUP REMINDER
Except for the traditional one-day-only townwide bulk pickup day announced each year (typically in June – and not guaranteed – scheduled each spring based on funding availability), the Borough DOES NOT collect bulk trash items as part of the municipal waste collection contract. Bulk items such as furniture, mattresses, construction material, tires, refrigerators, etc. MUST be disposed of privately. Please refer to the local yellow pages or other resource for a listing of private haulers. The Department of Public Works will not pick up these items. Property owners are subject to violation and penalties for uncollected bulk items left at curbside.
Annual Bulk Pickup
The following are examples of items that WILL be picked up for the bulk pickup: washers, dryers, small household appliances, furniture, furnishings, mattresses, box springs, rugs and carpets. The following will NOT be picked up: refrigerators, air conditioners, any appliance containing hazardous materials, televisions, vehicles, large vehicle parts (including tires), automobile batteries, construction debris (including lumber, bricks, concrete, cement blocks, etc.), or any hazardous materials such as aerosol cans, used motor oil, propane gas tanks, pesticides and herbicides, paint thinner, paint or varnishes, antifreeze, fluorescent and CFL bulbs. The annual bulk pickup will occur immediately following the townwide yard sale.
